Owasso hosts undefeated Moore at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in a Class 6AI-2 district game the Rams need after opening district play with a loss.

Moore (5-0, 2-0) enters with its best start since 1999, according to the Tulsa World. The Lions have not faced a team from outside the Oklahoma City metro this season. Owasso (2-3, 0-1) is looking to rebound after a 20-17 loss to Jenks on Friday, Oct. 2.

Tulsa World writer Barry Lewis framed the matchup bluntly: "Is Moore for real?"

The quarterback contrast tells part of the story. Moore's Brayden Hutson is 50-of-80 passing for 798 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions through five games. Owasso's Drew Frankenfield has thrown for more yards (1,124 on 93-of-154 passing) and matched Hutson's seven touchdowns, but his seven interceptions have been a recurring problem. Frankenfield threw two interceptions in the final four minutes of the Jenks loss, sealing the comeback.

Moore's ground game adds another dimension. Running back Ozias Adams has rushed for 727 yards and 11 touchdowns, giving the Lions a balanced attack Owasso's defense will need to contain. Junior linebacker Carson Odom, a transfer from Jenks, leads the Rams in tackles.

The Rams showed offensive life in the Jenks game. Receiver Kamieon Compton-Nero caught seven passes for 130 yards, including a 35-yard reception that set up a go-ahead touchdown. Running back Jason Mojica rushed for 135 yards and three touchdowns in Week 4 against Stillwater.

Owasso coach Bill Blankenship pointed to that Stillwater win as a building block. "At the end of the season we'll look back at Stillwater as a really good win … Our offensive line found its rhythm," Blankenship said in a Sept. 30 interview with the Tulsa World, ahead of the Jenks game.

The series history favors Owasso, which leads 6-4 all-time against Moore. The Rams won the most recent meeting 49-28 in 2021.

The district picture adds urgency. No. 4 Yukon (6-0, 2-0) plays at Union (1-4, 0-1) on Friday, and No. 2 Broken Arrow (5-0, 2-0) visits Westmoore (1-4, 1-1). Yukon's remaining schedule includes Owasso, Jenks and Moore.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Owasso.
