No. 4 Owasso travels to No. 3 Jenks on Friday, Oct. 2, in a rematch of last year's 6A-I semifinal. Union also heads across town to Booker T. Washington for the first time since 2013.
The Owasso-Jenks game is a rematch of Owasso's 39-36 semifinal win last season. It is also the first district meeting between the programs since 2006 and Jenks' home opener, as first reported by the Tulsa World. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Both teams enter at 2-2. Jenks is 1-0 in district play; Owasso is 0-1. Before Bixby's current four-year championship run, Owasso and Jenks combined to win four of the last five state titles.
The quarterback matchup headlines the game. Owasso senior Drew Frankenfield has thrown for 961 yards and six touchdowns on 61-of-119 passing. Jenks senior Landon Kizzar has put up 910 yards and five touchdowns on 59-of-109 passing. Kizzar was injured on the opening series of last year's semifinal.
Owasso running back Jason Mojica rushed for 135 yards and three touchdowns in the Rams' 21-6 win over Stillwater. Jenks tight end Braxton Daniel, a Utah commit, has had at least one big-play catch in every game this season, according to the Tulsa World.
One player with ties to both sidelines: Owasso junior linebacker Carson Odom, the Rams' leading tackler with 41, played for Jenks last year.
Jenks leads the all-time series 28-20, but Owasso has won four of the past five meetings, including the past two semifinals. Jenks won the regular-season matchup 31-21 last year.
"Jenks' quarterback is playing really well and I really like how their offense has evolved over the last two years, it's very creative," Owasso head coach Bill Blankenship said in the Tulsa World's Sept. 30 preview.
The game will be televised on YurView (Spectrum/Cox-3).
Union-B.T.W. rivalry resumes
Union (0-3) visits No. 5 B.T. Washington (3-1) at S.E. Williams Stadium at 7 p.m., according to Union Public Schools. The programs share a combined 16 state titles, nine each, but have not played since 2013.
Union won that last meeting 39-25. The teams played annually from 1968 to 1995. In one of the rivalry's most memorable games, B.T.W. beat Union 35-0 in a 1984 semifinal on its way to a state championship.
Union quarterback Dylan Taylor has passed for 535 yards and five touchdowns this season. The Redhawks' offense had its most productive game of the year in last week's 39-31 loss to Jenks. B.T.W. quarterback Jordan DeRoin accounted for 325 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-20 win over Lawton MacArthur before the bye week.
The key matchup may be B.T.W.'s defensive line, led by Power Five commits Joseph Graves and Cadriann Olds, against a Union offensive line that has struggled to protect Taylor.
Broken Arrow hosts Edmond Memorial
No. 2 Broken Arrow (4-0, 1-0) hosts Edmond Memorial (2-2, 0-1) in a 5A-I district game. The Tigers' closest margin of victory this season is 21 points.
Broken Arrow quarterback Shamar Banner is 35-of-55 for 535 yards and seven touchdowns. Running backs Octavian Roberson and Corey Sango have combined for 539 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
Broken Arrow won 29-17 over Edmond Memorial last year after trailing going into the fourth quarter.
