A 7-year-old nonverbal boy with autism who went missing from his north Tulsa home Thursday afternoon was found dead about six hours later near a creek a few blocks away.
Asher, whose last name has not been released, was last seen around 2 p.m. Aug. 20, near his home at 45th Street North and North Delaware Avenue, according to KTUL. He was wearing a blue-green shirt and a pull-up.
The Tulsa Police Department issued an urgent neighborhood alert on X that afternoon, asking residents near 4500 N. Delaware to search their homes, vehicles and surrounding areas for the child. The department described Asher as a "lost 7-year-old, non-verbal autistic child" and said officers were already on scene searching the area.
The search grew quickly. Nearly 150 first responders joined the effort, fanning out through the neighborhood as the hours passed.
At approximately 8 p.m., members of the Tulsa Fire Department located Asher's body a few blocks from where he was last seen, Tulsa Police said in an update on X posted at 8:10 p.m. Thursday. Preliminary evidence indicates he walked southwest from his house toward a nearby creek at the end of the cul-de-sac, according to authorities.
KRMG confirmed the outcome Friday, reporting the same details attributed to the Tulsa Police Department.
No cause of death has been released. The Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has taken jurisdiction over the investigation, and the Tulsa Police Department stated it could provide no further updates at this time. No department spokesperson was identified by name in any public statement.
The department thanked the nearly 150 first responders who assisted in the search but offered no additional comment on the circumstances of Asher's death.
