The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office released body-cam and dash-cam footage Thursday, Sept. 24, of a deputy-involved shooting near East 41st Street and South Sheridan Road.

The video provides the first visual account of the Monday, Sept. 21, encounter that left 37-year-old Lucien Auguste in critical condition after he allegedly fired at Deputy Weston Edwards. Edwards was not injured.

Casey Roebuck, a public information officer with the sheriff's office, described the sequence of events during a video briefing reported by KJRH. Edwards was driving home around 12:30 p.m. when he noticed a man walking in and out of traffic along 41st Street. The shooting unfolded on a busy stretch of midtown Tulsa during the lunch hour.

Edwards pulled over to check on the man.

"I think he initially was just going to tell the guy to get out of the road before he got hurt and then he noticed he had something concealed in his shirt, and within seconds he had produced the weapon," Roebuck said.

Auguste then pulled a firearm and fired at Edwards, who returned fire, according to investigators. Roebuck said at least a couple of shell casings from the suspect's gun were recovered at the scene.

Auguste was struck and transported to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of Sept. 24, according to KTUL. No charges against Auguste have been publicly reported.

Edwards, a 14-year veteran who joined the sheriff's office on July 1, 2012, was placed on paid administrative leave. The office described the leave as standard procedure following a deputy-involved shooting.

Tyler Byrd, who works at Trident Collision near the scene, told News On 6 on Sept. 21 that he heard about four shots from inside the shop. He and coworkers went outside and saw both the deputy and the man holding guns pointed at each other.

Sheriff Vic Regalado said in a Sept. 24 statement that the investigation is ongoing and that no further comment would be made. The sheriff's office warned the released videos contain graphic images and language.
