Tulsa police officers shot an armed suspect inside a Peoria Avenue restaurant late Sept. 3. The suspect had allegedly shot another person during a fight that appeared connected to a vehicle crash, Tulsa Police Department (TPD) Captain Richard Meulenberg said.

Both the original shooting victim and the suspect were taken to a hospital. Their conditions were not available as of Sept. 4.

The incident began as a shots-fired call that escalated into an active shooter situation at Uncle Rozay's Wings and Thingz on Peoria Avenue, 2 News Oklahoma reported. Meulenberg said the altercation appeared to be connected to a vehicle crash, though the exact sequence of events remained under investigation.

After the suspect allegedly shot the victim, the victim ran into Uncle Rozay's. Officers arrived while the situation was still unfolding and found the suspect armed inside the restaurant.

"Oftentimes we say that a scene is kind of chaotic," Meulenberg said. "This one truly, really exemplifies how chaotic it is."

Meulenberg said officers could still hear screaming as they responded to the call. They confronted the suspect, who was still armed, inside the restaurant. The suspect pointed a gun at officers, Meulenberg said. He added that he had heard reports the suspect also fired at officers but could not confirm that at the time of his statement.

Officers returned fire, striking the suspect.

Two officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave. Meulenberg described the leave as standard protocol and a measure to support the officers' mental health. The names of the officers were not released.

TPD's investigation into the full sequence of events was ongoing as of Sept. 4.
