The Tulsa Drillers broke their franchise single-season home run record and won their 88th game Sept. 12, beating the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 8-4 at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale, Arkansas.

Joe Vetrano and Elijah Hainline each went deep in the fourth inning to push the team's season total to 197 home runs, according to the Drillers' game recap. Vetrano's solo shot tied the previous franchise mark of 196, set by the 2022 squad. Hainline's two-run blast broke it.

Both homers were the 13th of the season for each player.

The 88-49 record gives the Dodgers' Double-A affiliate 10 more wins than any Drillers team in the franchise's 49-season history. The Drillers also own the most victories in all of Minor League Baseball this season, the team said in its game recap. The last Tulsa baseball team to win more was the 1968 Triple-A Oilers, who won 95 games.

The win extended Tulsa's streak to five straight and 10 victories in its last 11 games heading into the regular-season finale and playoffs.

Patrick Copen, a Marshall University product, anchored the win with six scoreless innings. He allowed two hits and two walks while striking out six in his 26th appearance of the season. The outing improved his record to 9-7. It was his first scoreless start since a rain-shortened one-inning outing on June 6.

The Drillers jumped ahead early. Singles from Jose Izarra and Mike Sirota, a walk to Hainline, a run-scoring single from Jake Gelof, a sacrifice fly from Kole Myers and a two-run double from Frank Rodriguez built a 4-0 lead in the third inning. Vetrano and Hainline added their back-to-back homers in the fourth to make it 7-0. Izarra drove in the eighth run in the fifth with his second hit of the game.

Gelof went 2-for-2 with two walks, extending his hitting streak to seven games. He has hit safely in 18 of his last 19 games. But he did not homer, leaving him tied with Tim Wheeler's 2011 mark of 33 home runs for the modern-era Tulsa professional baseball record, which dates to 1932.

"It's pretty cool. Like I was talking to my dad about the history and how long the Drillers have been here, and just all that history that comes with you playing here, it's definitely pretty cool," Gelof told the Tulsa World on Sept. 2, after hitting his 30th homer of the season.

Gelof has one game left to break the record outright. The Drillers close the regular season Sept. 13 at 2:05 p.m. against the Naturals, with right-hander Roque Gutierrez (7-3, 5.59 ERA) on the mound. The Texas League playoffs open Sept. 15 in Springfield against the second-half North Division champion Springfield Cardinals.
