Broken Arrow's Rose Festival opens Sept. 11 in the Rose District with three days of live music, art, food trucks and a Sunday kite-flying event.
The festival, held since 2014, runs through Sunday, Sept. 13. It is organized by the Keep Broken Arrow Beautiful Rose Committee along with community partners and the City of Broken Arrow. The city's community calendar lists the event as "Rose Festival / Chalk it Up."
Admission is free.
Friday's activities run from 5 to 8:30 p.m. in the Rose District. Saturday picks up from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the same area, according to News On 6. Visitors can browse a rose show, floral exhibits, an Arts @302 contest and exhibit, marketplace vendors, garden and pollinator education booths, a free Kid Zone, chalk art and food trucks. Live performances are scheduled both days, though organizers have not announced specific acts.
The Chalk It Up Art Festival runs alongside the Rose Festival. Artists will transform pavement into chalk murals during a competition open to the public, according to Green Country OK.
The Sunday event, Rose Kites Over Broken Arrow, moves to Broken Arrow Events Park, 21101 E. 101st St. S., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children will receive free kites. The lineup includes a historic kite exhibit, giant kite displays, candy drops, professional fighter-kite demonstrations, face painting and food trucks.
The festival raises money and awareness for The Gardens at Central Park, a collection of rose, pollinator, herb and prairie plant gardens in Broken Arrow, according to the BA Sentinel. The Keep Broken Arrow Beautiful Rose Committee said the event celebrates the city's history as the "City of Roses" and supports the gardens through education and fundraising.
